Potential Electrical Problem—Front Porch Light

April 3, 2008

Below is an email the Board received concerning an electrical problem with a front porch light on Peach Court (published with permission)

Hi,

I live in Walnut Ridge on Peach Court.  I need you [the Board] to contact all homeowners in the community to warn them of a potential hazard.

My house almost burned down because the front porch light box (the metal box that houses the wires) was too small.  The wires shorted (I'm not good with electrical terms so bear with me) and the box heated up so much the plastic bulb (around the light bulb) melted.  My mulch caught on fire as well as the siding of my house.

It looks as though all end units in the neighborhood may have the same front porch light set-up as I did have....
